Golden Island will receive a five-year methanol bunkering licence from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), effective January 1, 2026.
Golden Island was among the three awarded licences, selected from a total of 13 applicants through a comprehensive evaluation process that assessed supply chain reliability, operational readiness, safety systems, and the sustainability certification of the methanol to be supplied. The strong interest reflects the sector’s growing focus on lower-emission marine fuels.
Golden Island has been very focused and committed to its decarbonisation roadmap; when the market outlook was still unclear in 2023, Golden Island had already committed to four IMO Type II chemical tankers to supply low-carbon methanol as marine fuel.

“We will continue to align ourselves to support scaling methanol bunkering not just in Singapore, but at a global scale; while supporting Singapore’s ambition to be a sustainable multi-fuel bunkering hub,” Golden Island said in a statement.
“We are collaborating with global partners to form supply chains that can bring value to our clients. These partnerships allow us to expand our network and create an agile and responsive environment to handle volatile situations.”
Golden Island’s all four tankers: GOLDEN ANTARES, GOLDEN SIRIUS, GOLDEN CENTAURUS AND GOLDEN CARINA will be ready for operations in Q1 2026.
Golden Island would like to thank our partners for all the support received during the application for the methanol bunkering licence, which was instrumental to the success of our application.
“We are excited to begin methanol bunkering for our clients with the newly awarded methanol bunkering licence.”
